New Years Eve Under the Sea

New Years Eve

Spent with those I don’t

Really like and

Don’t really want to be with

She smiles and laughs

But I remember us

Cracking up and smoking

Because New Years was our holiday

Young beauties lost

And covered in glitter

Happy on our Mermaid Island

Not a worry in our champaign bubbles

Now I’m at the bottom of

The ocean of your contact list

You sent me out to sea

And never waited for me

You left me to drown

As I was waiting for you

Beneath the waves

Holding your glass of champaign

I met some barnacle creatures

Below the surface

Trying to find our glitter

In their hungry shark eyes

It’s impossible for me

To keep waiting for you

To care and save me from

The sinking you sentenced me to

So I’ll eat the grapes

And the black-eyed peas

With the sea urchins and crustations

While you forget me

All those sparkling countdowns

Together full of wishes

Must have been treasures to me

And an inconvenience to you

So Happy New Year

From the bottom of my watery grave

Missing flowers and thoughts and prayers

From you

The fireworks and toasts

I shoved into bottles and sent off

In hopes you’ll find them on the shore

Wherever you are

Happy New Year

To the one I loved

Who never loved me

From the bottom of the sea.
